Artist: Eve Bailey

Description

PROJECT: This project marries sculpture with dance. Dancers will perform on tall totemic sculptures throughout the festival. Bailey combines her love for architecture and dance into a single body of work that speaks to our environment and our human potential. Her work is based on the concepts of balance and coordination. She conceives devices and design ergonomic sculptures that serve to express the elegance of a gesture, a finite moment of equilibrium.

ABOUT: French born (1975) Brooklyn-based artist Eve Bailey' s backgrounds in dance and martial arts combined with her knowledge in draftsmanship and construction have forged her approach to sculpting. The body interests her as a perceiving mechanical structure. She uses her own body's imprint to design ergonomic sculptures that she and professional dancers occasionally perform on. The forms she creates derive their vitality from the relationship between the spontaneity of movements and the engineering inherent to their making. The sculptures stand on their own whereasthe performance poetically reveals the process and energy from which they are derived.
