PROJECT: A presentation of evocative paintings and work on paper by Stoltzfus. This work folds landscape spaces inspired by the American South into a rich, present and obsessive circular mark making. The result is mysterious, shifting in response to the viewers gaze. His dramatically sky-lit space provides ideal lighting and an opportunity to see the images in the place they were created.
ABOUT: Stoltzfus learned to cross-stitch, garden, and paint houses from his Mennonite family in rural Virginia. These days he works in a studio in Brooklyn, where he hacks inkjet printers and crafts evocative landscape paintings that are haunted by memory, history, and light.
